Abstract
A serological survey for viruses, especially those reported to be seed-transmitted on soyabeans, was undertaken in the Transvaal, South Africa. From the 26 virus-infected plants collected, 11 isolates of soybean mosaic potyvirus (SMV), 1 isolate of peanut mottle potyvirus (PMV), and 5 isolates of unidentified potyviruses were obtained. The unidentified potyvirus isolates did not react in ELISA tests to bean yellow mosaic potyvirus, PMV or SMV
